As Stuart himself will tell you, he often ventures off the reservation - in a way, his entire career has been 'way out west. Along with the playing of Mike Campbell, who contributed guitar, B-3 organ and piano, the Fabulous Superlatives are all over Way Out West and ensure that the mystical detours Stuart explores always remain of the moment. The only effects I noticed was the usual pb-1 on top of the deluxe reverb.Ĭousin Kenny played his Mike Campbell Custom Shop Heartbreaker (modeled after MC's Broadcaster) for most of the show, a custom RS Guitarworks double neck (bottom neck has standard tuning, 12 string upper neck is tuned in a Jimmy Bryant Stratosphere tuning, I believe), a kind of strange Rickenbacker 370, and his usual Martin HD28. He played the electrics through his usual silverface deluxe reverb. Marty played Clarence for most of the night with a few changes to the Ronson Esquire, the acoustic and the mandolin.
I don't remember a whole lot of the setlist but a highlight was definitely Cousin Kenny's two songs (Country Music's Got a Hold on Me and Hot Like That), and Professor Chris Scruggs' version of Red Foley's Tennessee Saturday night.They perform a fantastic show- probably the best I've seen! Stuart invited Dierks Bentley, Steve Miller, Sheryl Crow, Tyler Childers and more to share songs.
